I received my certificate in Biomedical Acupuncture for Pain Management from the Biomedical Acupuncture Institute in Boulder, CO in April 2009. I am pleased to offer the following treatments used alone or in combination for pain and pain-related conditions:
Interferential Current Stimulation
Infrared Mineral Heat Lamp
Chinese Massage Techniques
It is not the intention of Biomedical Acupuncturists to practice Chinese acupuncture, but we blend traditional Chinese philosophies with modern medicine. The old and new wisdoms blend admirably. A medical approach can explain the science of why acupuncture works and the limitations of acupuncture. The classical idea of homeostasis or restoring balance (Qi) to the body and promoting self-healing is part of the practice. Both philosophies are valuable.
Acupuncture is a low tech approach in a high tech society. Biomedical Acupuncture is holistic but also targets specific symptoms.
Acupuncture does not interfere with the body’s natural processes. Rather, it improves homeostasis and normalizes body functions. It engages the relaxing parasympathetic nervous system which slows down the respiratory and heart rates, and improves digestion.
Sterile single use needles are always used. The needles stimulate physiologic processes and cause the release of endorphins--natural opiates; cortisone--the body’s own anti-inflammatory drug; and serotonin--a calming, mood elevator.
In treating pain, it can loosen adhesions and scar tissue and relax contractures. It is also helpful in non-pain conditions such as sinusitis, headaches, and lactation, for example, and its relaxing benefit may even help insomnia and anxiety.
Your first appointment is 75-90 minutes which includes an extensive health history, your goals will be addressed, and your first treatment will be administered. Your treatment plan will be customized according to your goals, expectations and preferences. You have the option of listening to any genre of music from our extensive music library or a quiet room during treatment.
Follow up appointments are 1-1.25 hours depending on your specific needs. This time will be divided between discussing your response to previous treatment and administering treatment.
